“Do you trust that God knows best? Do you trust that God is right in every situation? Do you trust his word when it says to RUN from sexual immorality because it will destroy you? Do you trust that you are too important and your marriage is too important? The choice is yours, you know. You can have it all- all the lust and sin and confusion and lostness of the world. Or… you can have the beauty and peace and love of a God-centered life and a God-written love story…
I believe God.” — Lauren DeMoss
I could not have said it better myself. As I was scrolling through my news feed on Facebook this morning I saw that one of my friends had posted the trailer for the “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie. And honestly I was a little curious, however I am so glad I stumbled upon this article because it reminded me of my heavenly Father’s desire for me to remain pure and think on things that are pure and good and honorable.
I don’t care if the books are great literary works or the most artistic work to hit the shelves. I don’t care if the story is well written or not. The main substance of this latest book franchise is taking sex, something that was created and designed by God out of his pure desire to mimic in our lives the pure love He has for His church, His creation; and transforming it into nothing more than yet another way for us to gratify our own sinful desires. Sex was meant to be a beautiful, intimate and mutual way for a husband and wife to express their love and devotion to one another, and instead we have reduced it into just a physical act that induces temporary physical pleasure. Something that we either lust after with all of our hearts, or something that makes us squirm and giggle and hush up, or use to overpower people. We have turned something that was meant to be a private and intimate experience between a husband and wife into something that is so commonly woven in all forms of media that we are almost completely numb to it’s original purpose. We cannot possibly understand it as anything but a god or gross, when really it is a gift.
This has been going on since sin entered the world. This warped view of sex isn’t getting worse just more popular. All you have to do is turn on almost any TV channel. The popularity of “Fifty Shades of Grey” is not a surprise it is only one more piece of evidence to show just how far we have fallen from our original purpose: to love and glorify the Lord, our Creator.
It is truly heartbreaking.
