“Whom have you mocked and reviled? Against whom have you raised your voice and lifted your eyes to the heights? Against the Holy One of Israel!”
As I read these words in Isaiah chapter 37 my first thought is, “Oh snap!” But as I think more and read it once again the Spirit reminds me of the fact that I am just as much at the other end of these words from God as Sennacherib, the ruler that thought He could take over Jerusalem without God destroying him, is!
And as I am coming to this realization the song “Lamb of God” by Tenth Avenue North begins to play in the background. And I find myself singing the words,
“You are holy. You are worthy. You are holy, You’re the Lamb of God!”
I just got a smack down directly from the Word of the Lord, yet I am singing about how He is worthy and holy?
Heck yes I am!
Because of this:
“For out of Jerusalem shall go a remnant and out of Zion a band of survivors. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this…For I will defend this city to save it, for my own sake and for the sake of my servant David.” ~Isaiah 37:32 & 35
Ah! What a breath of fresh air!
You see even though just a couple chapters before the Israelites were being punished for their lack of faithfulness to the Lord, the Lord’s faithfulness to them never changed! And the same goes for all of us who are sons of the King, who have put our faith in Him! Even though we daily revile and mock Him with our sinfulness, even though I think I can do life on my own on a daily basis, He still remains faithful to His promises!
“that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in Him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.” (John 6:40)
So Lord, thank you for reprimanding your children for the wrongs we have done against you! It reminds us just how unfaithful we are and just how faithful you are! Thank you for your loving kindness, your steadfast love, your Hesed. Where would we be without it? Thank you!
In the name of the Lamb of God, Amen!
